A shoe artisan got seriously burnt under suspicious circumstances after a dispute with neighboring youth on Sunday night in Surjepur, Transport Nagar, Agra. The family alleges that when he was stopped from drinking alcohol, three youths of the colony sprinkled petrol and set him on fire. The police have admitted the burnt youth to SN Medical College.
The victim’s sister Sonia told the police that an attempt was made to burn her brother Jeetu (28) alive. Jeetu works in a shoe factory. A truck was standing in front of his house for many days. Anup, Amit, Avinash of Basti used to sit in it and drink alcohol. Also brought liquor and food on Sunday night. Sat in the truck. Seeing his brother, he started making inappropriate gestures.
Brother protested against drinking alcohol in front of the house. The accused beat up the brother. Brother came home and narrated his ordeal to his family. A complaint was lodged at the house of the accused. At around 9 pm the brother was standing outside the house. The accused poured petrol and set it on fire. Face and neck were burnt. People nearby extinguished the fire.
Family members told that Jeetu has suffered more than 50 percent burns. The situation has become serious. Police say that a CCTV footage was found during the investigation. It is being told that in the footage, Jeetu was carrying petrol in a bottle. It is not clear why Jitu had bought petrol. He is in no position to talk.
Police have also found footage from a distance at the place where Jeetu was burning. Due to night it is not possible to know what had happened there earlier. DCP City Suraj Kumar Rai said that the police is busy investigating. A case has been registered and action is being taken.
